Check AIP and airport website for the availability of the designated airport. (opening hours, PPR (Prior Permission Required), fuel, fees, etc..)
Payload? Can the target payload can fit in without exceeding W&B limitations? Cargo-> is it dangerous good? Pax-> Passport control?
Fuel? Is it sufficient for the whole trip? W&B aspect? Where can I refuel? Price?
Check the route in regards of airspaces and terrain. Modify as necessary. (TMAs might be crossed with an entry and exit point but have an alternative circumnavigational backup also) Reminder: when leaving a country it needs to be done via a waypoint which is situated on or nearby the border.

Once the flight date has been established (at least a day prior):
Contact destination and alternate airport's handling regarding of availability. In case of a military airport your instructor will do it.
In case of any of them unavailable find a suitable alternative airport.
Inquire of the landing and handling fees. Card or cash only? Do they accept subsequent bank transfer by Fly-coop?
